Hepatitis C by Marcelino

Marcelino

Hepatitis C

Hepatitis C is a virus that affects the liver. It is an infectious blood borne viral disease and it’s caused by a virus called Hepatitis C virus (HCV). This is a small virus about 50nm in size that has a fast rate of replication, about one trillion particles in an infected individual each day. The problem with this viral disease is that it also has a high mutation rate, so that makes it easy to elude the host’s immune response. The HCV is transmitted by blood to blood contact. For Example: By Blood transfusion with infected blood, drugs use, also by sexual relations, and most of the times it is asymptomatic. If Hepatitis c is not treated, it can degrade to Chronic Hepatitis, which can cause more than just liver inflammation, but also cirrhosis and liver cancer. Unlike Hepatitis A and B, there’s not a vaccine yet to prevent the virus spread that causes the infection.
